Catnip is famous for its aphrodisiac effect that it has on cats. When cats sense the bruised leaves or stems of catnip, they may roll over it, paw at it, chew it, lick it, leap about and purr.

Cats may have any or all of the following reactions to catnip:
* meow and roll in the catnip;
* rub their cheeks against the spot where catnip has been sprinkled;
* get into unusual positions such as on their back with paws extended, gazing up at the ceiling;
* run around the room like a kitten playing with its invisible friend; and
* settle into a dreamy, sleepy silly pose and not move for awhile.
